1.Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP):

Coastal Road Project: The Coastal Road Project is a massive infrastructure project that aims to decongest the city’s traffic by providing a fast and scenic coastal road connecting South Mumbai to the western suburbs. The 29.2 km long road will have multiple lanes, tunnels, and bridges, making it easier for commuters to travel between different parts of the city. The project is expected to reduce travel time and improve connectivity, making it a game-changer for Mumbai’s maximum city transportation system.

The BMC has undertaken a Mumbai Coastal Road Project-South (MCRP) on the western seaboard of the city to decongest the existing roads. In the first phase, the project intends to connect Shamaldas Gandhi Marg (Marine Drive) in the south to the Worli end of the Bandra Worli Sea Link, which will involve a combination of coastal road based on tunnels, bridges/flyovers, elevated bridges, etc.

India’s largest 12.19 meter diameter tunnel is being constructed 20 meters below the Arabian Sea coast and 70 meters below Malabar Hill, with three lanes for southbound and northbound traffic. One lane is proposed to be reserved for emergency transportation. The trip from South Mumbai to Worli will take just ten minutes thanks to the Coastal Road, cutting down on travel time by almost. Additionally, it will lessen traffic congestion on the S.V. Road, Link Road, and W.E. Highway.

People’s living standards will rise as a result of better transportation options, which will also make better health and educational resources more accessible. Additionally, it will lessen air and noise pollution and improve air quality as a result of less traffic.

Princess Street Flyover to Priyadarshini Park Project Cost Rs. 4220 Cr.)
Total Project Cost Rs. 12721 Cr.

2.Mumbai metro line 3

Drawing a discusion for The Mumbai Metro line is 35.5 km long from cuff parade to R K colony. Its first phase from Banda Kurla (BKC) to Worli is expected to open in April 2024 and the first phase from cuff parade to BKC.It is expected to be fully opened by oct 2024.This 35.5 km long Metro-3 is the first underground metro corridor of Mumbai. It will connect cuff parade in Sudoor South of Mumbai city with 26 ground stations and 1 grade station. In this, from cuff parade to RK Colony, the total will be 27 stations. It is being operated by MMRC. In this, from cuff Parade to RK Colony, the total will be 27 stations.

It is being operated by MMRC with 50% sharing between Government of India and 50% state government with a total cost of Rs 13,235 crore. JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) is funding the majority of the project in its first phase. Work on Phase 2 of BKC – Colaba Metro Line-3 is expected to be operational soon. Work on Phase 2 of Colaba Metro Line-3 will be ready by Oct – 2024. 17 lakh passengers will travel on the entire route. Line 3, like the rest of the Mumbai Metro, will improve connectivity within the city and reduce passenger travel time. It will connect the southern part of Mumbai to the western part through an underground corridor, thereby reducing congestion in the maximum city.

3.Mumbai Trans-Harbour Sealink (MTHL)

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) is a massive infrastructure project that will greatly benefit the people of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. It is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 12 January, marking a significant milestone in India’s transportation development maximum city. This sea bridge, with a length of 21.8 km, will connect Sewri in Mumbai to Chirle in Navi Mumbai. Currently, the journey between South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai takes around two hours due to traffic congestion. However, with the construction of this sea link, the travel time will be reduced to just 20 minutes, making commuting much faster and more convenient for residents.

The MTHL consists of a 16.11 km-long portion built over water and a 5.5 km viaduct on land on either side. It will have six lanes, each 3.5 meters wide, providing ample space for vehicles to move smoothly.

The project will start from Messant Road at Sewri, connecting with the Eastern Freeway, and end at Shivaji Nagar in Navi Mumbai. This seamless connection will allow commuters to enjoy a hassle-free and quick journey between these two important locations, without any interruptions from traffic signals in maximum city

The sea link has been named ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri – Nhava Sheva Atal Setu’ in honor of the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The overall cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 17,843 crore, and it has been spearheaded by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

Once completed, the MTHL will not only improve connectivity between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai but also boost economic growth and development in the region. The opening of the first two phases of the Navi Mumbai Airport by December 2024 will provide much-needed relief and help improve the overall aerial connectivity in the maximum city.

The airport, spread across a vast 2860-acre site, will have the capacity to handle 2 crore passengers per annum. This significant increase in passenger capacity will help alleviate congestion at CSMIA and provide travelers with more options when flying to and from Mumbai maximum city.

5.Samruddhi Mahamarg

The completion of the expressway will not only reduce travel time between Nagpur and Mumbai maximum city but also boost economic development along its route.

One of the key objectives of the Samruddhi Mahamarg project is to promote better connectivity between different regions of Maharashtra  maximum city, thereby facilitating the movement of goods and people. Once this final phase is operational, the entire 701-km stretch of the Samruddhi Expressway will be open to the public, offering a seamless and efficient connectivity between Nagpur and Mumbai maximum city.
